Teen pillion rider killed after motorcycle crashes into 10m-sewer pit

TAMPIN: A 14-year-old boy who was riding pillion with his brother died after he fell into a 10-metre open sewer pit near here.

District OCPD Supt Amiruddien Sariman said the deceased and his 17-year-old brother were heading to a friend's house in Kuala Ina after dinner around 10.10pm on Monday when the accident happened.

"The older brother was believed to have lost control of the bike while negotiating a bend and crashed into the sewer pit which was under construction.

"The impact caused the victim to fall into the pit," he said in a statement.

Fire and Rescue Department personnel who arrived shortly after pulled the victim out from the pit and he was then rushed to hospital for treatment.

However, he died around 11.30pm.

The older brother sustained light injuries in the crash.

Supt Amiruddien appealed to eyewitnesses to contact the district station to help in investigations.

The case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1981.
