Break from spotlight brings Alya Iman renewed sense of calm

ACTRESS Alya Iman is feeling a renewed sense of calm after taking a six-month break last year to focus on weight loss and self-improvement, reported Berita Harian.

Alya, whose full name is Nur Alya Iman Azmil, said the decision to step away from the limelight was driven by emotional stress caused by criticism regarding her physical appearance and weight.

“As actors, we are still human and have feelings. When people bluntly say ‘Alya, you are fat, this won’t do’, it is hurtful.

“But at the same time, I understand the demands of being an actress. We need to look suitable on screen. That is why locking myself at home for six months to lose weight really tested my mental strength,” she said.

According to Alya, she stuck to daily exercise routines and consistent diet control during that period.

> The daily also reported about Abdul Rafka Azka Abdullah, who is ready to return to school today after a month-long recovery following a python attack.

“I can’t wait to start Year Four classes after this long break. I miss my friends and teachers,” said the 10-year-old.

On Jan 8, Abdul Rafka was attacked by a reticulated python measuring about 6m and weighing 40kg.

His right ankle was bitten by the reptile, which also constricted his body up to his chest in Kampung Temai Tengah in Pekan, Pahang.

“Though I am not fully healed of the nine snake bite marks, I am happy and grateful to be given the chance to start school,” he said.
