Inspector Sheila nabbed for disturbing the peace at Batu Caves


A video of the "Inspector Sheila" being detained by the police has since gone viral.

GOMBAK: A suspended policewoman, Inspector Sheila, was arrested for allegedly disturbing public order during the Thaipusam celebrations at Batu Caves on Sunday (Feb 1).

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said Inspector Sheila, whose real name is Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, was arrested under Section 186 of the Penal Code and remanded for one day.

He said the arrest followed an altercation between the woman and several traders near the temple at around 4am.

Earlier in the day, a video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the woman being detained by two police personnel while expressing her dissatisfaction over the arrest.

Mohd Khalid said police took action to prevent the situation from escalating and to ensure public order was maintained during the celebrations.

He said the arrest stemmed from an altercation between the woman and several traders near the temple, prompting police to take action to prevent the situation from escalating.

Sheila was remanded for one day before being released on bail on the same day, he added.

“She is neing investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act.

Meanwhile, Mohd Khalid said several other police reports were lodged during the Thaipusam celebrations, but all involved minor incidents and were successfully brought under control.
