Foreigner nabbed after attempting to bribe policeman during traffic stop

KUALA LUMPUR: A foreign national was arrested after allegedly attempting to bribe a policeman during a road check along Jalan Suasa 6 near Sungai Besi, Cheras, early Sunday (Feb 1) morning.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said a report was lodged at 4.07am by the policeman involved, who was on duty when the incident occurred at about 3am.

He said checks found that the 24-year-old suspect did not possess a valid Class B2 driving licence and failed to produce valid identification documents.

“The suspect attempted to offer a bribe to the on-duty policeman to avoid enforcement action,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Feb 1).

“The suspect was arrested and taken to a police station after he refused to comply with warnings,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 214 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1969/63.

Comm Fadil said a remand order of 14 days was granted, effective from today until Feb 15, to facilitate investigations.
