TVET graduate employment rates exceed 95% in most fields, says Zahid

PETALING JAYA: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates' employment rates have reached over 95% for most fields of study, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He revealed that fields with the highest rates of TVET graduate employment were arts and humanities (96.9%) and services (96.6%). Notably, ICT graduates saw a spike in employment from 95.4% in 2023 to 96.5% in 2024, showcasing an increase in demand for professionals in the sector.

Graduates in business, administration and law saw a similar rise from 95.3% to 96.3%, while those in engineering, manufacturing and construction rose from 94.8% to 95.1% in the same period. However, graduates from agriculture, forestry, fisheries and veterinary; education; and health and welfare saw a drop in employment.

Health and welfare recorded the biggest dip, falling from 93.7% in 2023 to 89.5% in 2024, while education dipped from 84.6% to 80.7%.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, revealed that the majority of TVET graduates still come from the engineering, manufacturing and construction field, which grew from 59% in 2023 to 65.46% in 2024.

“This coincides with engineering and construction TVET programmes recording the highest participation,” he said in a parliamentary written reply on Thursday (Jan 29).

He was responding to a question from Zahir Hassan (PH-Wangsa Maju) regarding TVET student percentages by field and their respective employability rates.
