Five including 'Datuk' to be charged with graft in Armed Forces probe

PETALING JAYA: A former high-ranking intelligence officer and a senior Armed Forces member are among five who will be charged with graft on Friday (Jan 30) at the Kuala Lumpur and Seremban courts, says the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

In a statement on Wednesday (Jan 28), the MACC said the others include a senior Armed Forces officer, a civil servant, a foreigner and a person with a "Datuk" title.

On Jan 22, 23 individuals including two high-ranking officers and four senior Armed Forces officers were detained by the MACC over an investigation into alleged corruption and abuse of power involving procurement matters and the use of public funds, as well as claims of receiving bribes from several companies, linked to the procurement of supplies for the Armed Forces Welfare Fund and the ministry.

On the same day, former Army chief Gen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan was charged with four counts of receiving proceeds from illegal activities amounting to RM2.1mil.
