Six nabbed in raid on ketum drink facility in Rawang

GOMBAK: A local man and five foreigners have been arrested after police dismantled a ketum drink processing and packaging operation in Rawang.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the raid was carried out by the Gombak's Narcotics Crime Investigation on Thursday (Jan 22).

"We detained six suspects, a local man and five foreign nationals – three men and two women – aged between 21 and 38.

"We seized 2,026 bottles of ketum drink with a total volume of 1,215,600ml, 20kg of ketum leaves, various processing equipment and a vehicle," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 27).

The total value of the seizure was estimated at RM21,000, he added.

"We believe the ketum drinks were intended for distribution within the Klang Valley.

"All the suspects did not have criminal records, and initial urine tests came back negative (for drugs)," he said, adding that the suspects were remanded.

The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

"We urge the public to continue providing information on criminal activities to assist in ongoing enforcement efforts," ACP Noor Ariffin said.
