KUALA LUMPUR: Former army chief Jen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan has lodged two police reports against political activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, over the alleged disclosure of confidential information and purportedly untrue statements circulated on social media.
The reports were lodged at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at about 12.30pm on Monday (Jan 26).
Lawyer Aizul Rohan Anuar, who represented Muhammad Hafizuddeain, said the reports involve two main issues, the alleged disclosure of confidential banking documents and defamatory statements made to the public.
Aizul said the first report was lodged following the alleged disclosure of bank statements, which are protected documents under the Financial Services Act (FSA).
“Bank statements are protected documents under Section 133 of the FSA and should not be disclosed. Whether they were leaked by banking personnel or otherwise, we do not know. That is why my client lodged a police report for investigations to be carried out,” he said at a press conference outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
He added that the second report concerns purportedly untrue statements, including allegations that Muhammad Hafizuddeain owned a Patek Philippe watch.
“That watch is not a Patek Philippe. It has no brand and is a commemorative watch issued by the Armed Forces. This is an example of how information can be manipulated and cause people to speak without knowing the facts,” he said.
On Jan 23, Muhammad Hafizuddeain He was charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court with two additional counts of receiving proceeds from illegal activities, on top of four earlier money-laundering charges involving more than RM2mil, all linked to alleged irregularities in army procurement projects.
He pleaded not guilty to the latest charges and was released on bail, with conditions including monthly reporting to the authorities and surrendering his passport.
