PJ mayor’s tenure extended by another year

KUALA LUMPUR: The tenure of Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohamad Zahri Samingon has been extended for another year.

Zahri confirmed this during a Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) child councillor event on Sunday (Jan 25) at a hotel here.

“I was appointed for a two-year tenure, starting Feb 1, 2024, to Feb 1, 2026. I have received an offer from the Selangor State Executive Council (MMKN) to continue until the end of January 2027,” said Mohamad Zahri.

“For the third year of my appointment, I will focus on ensuring that all major plans related to the care economy and the senior action plan materialise. I will ensure that all plans are in good working order.”

MBPJ’s child councillor programme for the 2026/2027 term saw the appointment of 30 new faces, aged between 11 and 17 years old.

The children were selected from 106 applicants from schools around Petaling Jaya.
