No foreign DNA, no forced entry in Sri Aman couple murder probe

Sarawak police commissioner Comm Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah speaking to reporters in Kuching on Friday (Jan 23).

KUCHING: Police have largely completed their investigation into the murder of a married couple found dead in their home in Sri Aman, pending analysis of the victims' mobile phones.

Sarawak police commissioner Comm Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the investigation found that the weapon contained only the DNA of both victims, with no foreign DNA detected.

"There was no sign of forced entry into the house and no valuables were reported missing.

"We can infer that the incident involved only the husband and wife," he told reporters after the monthly gathering at state police headquarters here on Friday (Jan 23).

The couple, identified as 45-year-old Andy Roy Junran and Angelin Kibin, 44, were found dead in their bedroom on Wednesday.

Andy was a primary school headmaster while Angelin was a nurse.

Comm Mohamad Zainal said the husband had been experiencing depression recently, according to witness statements.

He said police were still awaiting a forensic report on the couple's mobile phones to conclude the investigation.

"Once we have the report, we might find out more details which can help us determine the actual motive in the deaths of the couple.

"We want to know what the real motive is besides the depression," he said.

Comm Mohamad Zainal added that police had recorded statements from 30 witnesses comprising family members, friends, colleagues and neighbours.

"We have also received the chemical report and pathology report from the post-mortem on both victims," he said.
