Former armed forces chief vows to clear his name after corruption charges

KUALA LUMPUR: Former armed forces chief Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaafar wants to clear his name through due process and maintains that the Armed Forces are not affected by his case.

Speaking to reporters after he was released on bail, Mohd Nizam said the institution remains resilient despite the criminal prosecution against him and other senior military officers.

“This matter (the investigation and prosecution of senior military officers) will not affect the armed forces.

“The armed forces have been established for 92 years. We draw strength from that and we will rise again.

“Give the armed forces space. Among ourselves, we will re-examine the matter and determine the necessary course of action. Give them a chance,” Mohd Nizam said.

Earlier, Mohd Nizam pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court to four counts of corruption involving RM3.75mil.

He is currently out on a RM180,000 bail.
