KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has released limited-edition Chinese New Year angpow featuring the seahorse to welcome the coming Year of the Fire Horse.

As the official mascot of Miri, the seahorse celebrates the city's maritime heritage and coastal identity.

"The Year of the Fire Horse is about courage, momentum and taking the lead.

"By pairing this energy with the seahorse, we reflect Sarawak's tourism philosophy of leading with confidence while staying balanced, respectful of nature and true to our identity," STB chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh Askor said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 22).

She added that the seahorse's inclusion on the angpow design underscored STB's commitment to telling place-based stories that showcase Sarawak's unique character and lived environment.

Now in its eighth edition, STB's Chinese New Year angpow series serves as a creative platform to celebrate Sarawak's values, places and stories through meaningful design.

"As the nation marks Visit Malaysia 2026, Sarawak continues to lead with experiences that are distinctive, authentic and rooted in sustainability, reinforcing its role as the Gateway to Borneo," it said.

The seahorse angpow packets will be available for collection starting Friday (Jan 23) onwards at visitor information centres in Kuching, Miri and Sibu, while stocks last.
