KINABATANGAN: Barisan Nasional’s Kinabatangan candidate Mohd Naim Kurniawan Moktar has made 10 pledges to develop the constituency and help its people in his election manifesto.

"Today I am not here to make sweet promises. I am here with a work plan that can be audited, monitored and questioned by the people," he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Jan 22).

"I may be young, I may be new, but I believe sincerity combined with clear planning will defeat empty promises that are repeated over and over.

"I want Kinabatangan to move forward with work, not rhetoric. Employ me to work, correct me if I stray, and judge me by results," he added.

Among the pledges was to establish the Kinabatangan Strategic Development Council to plan and monitor development strategies for the area and also appoint opposition representatives as checks and balances.

Among others, Naim Kurniawan would also seek to establish the Kinabatangan Foundation to provide educational, welfare and emergency assistance; build a tourism and cultural hub; introduce Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes; implement free e-tuition; and provide free regular health check-ups.

He also plans to set up collection centres for marine and river produce to increase fishermen’s income and provide public transportation services in Kinabatangan, while also transforming Polling District centres (PDM) into youth stay hubs.

The Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections are scheduled for Saturday (Jan 24).

They were called following the Dec 5 passing of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, the father of Naim Kurniawan.

The Barisan candidate will be up against Parti Warisan's Saddi Abdul Rahman and Independent Goldam H Salangah.
