Public service hopeful tests positive for drugs during job interview in Sibu

SIBU: A man’s aspiration to enter the public service came to an abrupt end after he tested positive for drugs during an interview process here.

In a statement posted on its social media page, the Sibu District National Anti-Drug Agency said the 27-year-old was detained after failing an initial urine screening carried out by the agency.

The screening was conducted in conjunction with an interview session organised by the Sarawak State Public Service Commission on Tuesday (Jan 20).

"The test results showed that the individual tested positive for methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu.

"Subsequently, action was taken against the individual, who is now being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug and Substance Abusers and Addicts (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983," the statement said.

The incident underscores the authorities’ firm stance in ensuring that only candidates free from drug use and prohibited substances are recruited into the public service.

The National Anti-Drug Agency also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening enforcement and prevention efforts in line with national aspirations to achieve the "Drug-Free Malaysia 2030" goal.
