KUALA LUMPUR: The recent cases of corruption and misuse of public funds involving several senior military officers must not undermine the overall integrity of the Armed Forces and other enforcement agencies, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said such cases must not be allowed to represent the entire personnel either in the Armed Forces, Defence Ministry, Home Ministry and other enforcement agencies.

"I would like to state that the integrity, commitment, morale and resilience of our servicemen must not be undermined.

The overwhelming majority fully understand their responsibilities.

"I do not want the misconduct of a small minority, although it is still under investigation and subject to court decisions, to tarnish the reputation, standing, dignity of military officers at all levels who serve with professionalism and honour.

"I hope they remain steadfast, disciplined and firm in carrying out their duties," said Anwar in his speech when launching the National Defence Industry Policy (DIPN), here on Wednesday (Jan 21).

On Jan 12, The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it will complete the investigation involving a senior military officer within a week, according to Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The MACC chief commissioner said investigators finished recording his statement at about 5pm on Monday (Jan 12) at the commission's headquarters.

The MACC also had recommended that several senior military officers face charges following the completion of investigations under Op Star and Op Parasite.

The case papers had been referred to the deputy public prosecutor's office.

"We now await further instructions once the office has reviewed the investigation papers in full," he was quoted as saying.
