Senior citizen fined RM40,000 for diesel misappropriation

KLUANG: A 60-year-old man has been fined RM40,000 by the Sessions Court here after pleading guilty to diesel misappropriation.

Ravi Chandran was charged with the offence after officials from the Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry conducted checks on a lorry involved in the distribution of subsidised diesel in the Simpang Renggam area at around 11.30am on Sept 12, 2023.

He was accused of possessing 10,998 litres of diesel, which raised suspicion.

Ravi pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him before Sessions Judge Mujib Saroji on Tuesday (Jan 20).

The offence was framed under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possessing or storing controlled goods without a valid authorisation or licence.

The court ordered Ravi to pay a fine of RM40,000, in default one year's imprisonment, and ordered the forfeiture of the lorry and the seized diesel worth RM23,865.66.

Ravi paid the fine.
