Melaka civil servants get Feb 19 holiday for Ramadan

MELAKA: The state has declared Feb 19 a special public holiday for all civil servants to mark the beginning of Ramadan.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said this would also allow them to have an extended consecutive break beginning with the Chinese New Year holidays on Feb 17 and 18, followed by Feb 20 to commemorate the announcement date of the Federation of Malaya’s independence at Padang Bandar Hilir here on Feb 20, 1956.

“I appreciate the commitment shown by civil servants who continue to discharge their duties day and night, rain or shine, to the people of Melaka,” he said in his New Year address at the Melaka International Trade Centre here yesterday.

He urged those concerned to utilise the extra holiday to prepare for Ramadan and strengthen family ties.

Ab Rauf also said nearly 200 key initiatives were implemented in the state over the past three years, reflecting significant progress across multiple strategic sectors.

He said the state’s development landscape had been systematically shaped through focused policies and coordinated efforts despite the challenges faced, citing the good work of the state secretary, state exco members and government departments and agencies, who have consistently stood firm in supporting and ensuring the success of state government policies.

He said his highest appreciation was reserved for more than 38,500 state civil servants, whom he described as the backbone and driving force behind Melaka’s achievements and progress.

He also acknowledged the sacrifices of frontliners who remained steadfast in safeguarding the safety, well-being and security of the people and state.

Ab Rauf also expressed appreciation to the private sector and NGOs for their continued support of the state’s development agenda and aspirations.

“Where there is commitment, there will be success and our achievements were the result of the sweat, effort and spirit that all of you have contributed,” he added.
