Cops nab 15 over three fights that occurred in Kuala Muda


SUNGAI PETANI: A total of 15 men were arrested during Ops Cantas following three fights that occured in Taman Songket and Taman Ria Jaya here on Jan 10.

Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Hanyan Ramlan said the fights, which involved between 15 to 20 individuals, resulted in damage to property and injuries.

"Following these incidents, police received several reports at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters and two investigation papers have been opened under Section 147 and Section 326/148 of the Penal Code," he said.

Following the incidents, police launched “Op Cantas” on Jan 10 and 11, during which 15 men aged between 16 and 47 years old were arrested to assist in investigations.

ACP Hanyan said 14 suspects had been charged at the Sungai Petani courts on Jan 20.

"The 14 suspects were charged at a Sungai Petani Magistrate's Court under Section 147 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to two years or a fine or both upon conviction, as well as under Section 148 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to five years or a fine or both if found guilty," he added.
