Smuggling by any other name: AKPS seizes 46kg of roses without import permit

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has seized three boxes of fresh roses weighing 46kg without an import permit at the KLIA Cargo Free Commercial Zone (FCZ).

AKPS said an inspection of the FCZ found that the items, imported from India, did not have valid approval and permits from the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis).

It said in a statement on Monday (Jan 19) that the case is being investigated under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 for importing agricultural commodities without a valid Maqis permit.

"All the seized items will undergo further action in accordance with established procedures and applicable legal provisions," the statement read.

AKPS also reaffirmed its continued commitment to tightening controls on the entry of agricultural goods to safeguard the country’s biosecurity. – Bernama
