New site ready for temple relocation, says Yeoh

A NEW site for the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple has been prepared as part of plans linked to the development of Masjid Madani and the temple’s relocation, said Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh.

She said the mosque project and the relocation process are being carried out in an orderly manner, based on the law and with consideration for interfaith harmony.

"A coordination meeting will be held today (Jan 19) to finalise the steps for the relocation and construction process," she said in a statement.

She said discussions would continue closely and regularly with all parties, especially after Thaipusam, to ensure the process runs in an orderly and respectful manner.

She said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (Dbkl) approved all building plans for the temple on Sept 17, 2025.

"The new site was gazetted as a Non-Muslim House of Worship site on Dec 5, 2025," she said.

"Approval to construct on the land was issued by the Federal Territories Kuala Lumpur Land Working Committee on Jan 14," she added.

Yeoh said the government is now coordinating the relocation at the operational level, involving all relevant agencies and stakeholders.

Yeoh also thanked the role of former minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa and former Kuala Lumpur mayor Sharif in securing the new site.

She also named Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan and MIC president Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr SA Vigneswaran for their commitment to efforts aimed at maintaining harmony in Kuala Lumpur.

On Jan 16, it was reported that the temple committee accused Jakel Trading of "defying and disregarding government undertakings" after the company demanded the temple relocate within seven days.
