ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly assaulting a policeman at a police station here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the incident occurred at about 3.40pm on Sunday (Jan 18), when the suspect arrived at the Mutiara Rini police station in an aggressive state.

“The suspect threw a motorcycle rim and punched a policeman who was on duty.

“He was later arrested and sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for further examination and treatment as he appeared mentally unwell,” he said in a statement on Monday (Jan 19).

He added that as a result of the incident, the policeman sustained bruises to his right eye and shoulder, as well as swelling on his left leg.

“Following the arrest, police also seized a sling bag containing a knife blade and a motorcycle rim,” he said, adding that the man does not have any criminal record.

ACP Kumarasan said the case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for assaulting or using criminal force against a public servant, Section 90 of the Police Act 1967 for behaving in a disorderly manner at a police station, and Section 6(1) of the Offensive Weapons, Explosives and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.

He reminded the public not to speculate on the case, as it could interfere with ongoing investigations.

Those with information on criminal activities may contact the nearest police station or the Iskandar Puteri District Control Centre at 07-511 3622 or the hotline at 07-511 4486, he added.
