Man killed, another seriously injured in Jalan Penrissen crash


KUCHING: A 51-year-old man was killed and another seriously injured in a single-vehicle road accident along Jalan Penrissen, Batu 8, here late Saturday night (Jan 17).

The State Fire and Rescue Department said the fatal crash occurred at about 11.35pm when the victims’ car skidded before plunging into a ditch approximately 10m deep.

Fire and Rescue Department personnel from the Kota Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene following an emergency call.

“Two adult male victims were involved in the incident. The deceased was identified as Bong Bing Wen, 51, who was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel,” it said.

The second victim, identified as 23-year-old Daniel Tan Kwan Chuan, sustained serious injuries but was conscious when rescued.

He was later transported by an ambulance to Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.

“Both victims were found thrown out of the vehicle following the crash. Firefighters successfully carried out the rescue operation using stretchers to evacuate the victims up the steep road embankment,” it added.
