MACC sets up ops room during Sabah's by-elections

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened an operations room for those lodging complaints of graft during the Kinabatangan parliamentary and the Lamag state by-elections.

The MACC said that the operations room, which would operate 24 hours a day from Jan 10 to 25 January, was located at the MACC Sandakan office at Level 7, Federal Building, Jalan Labuk, Sandakan, Sabah.

"Members of the public may also submit any complaints regarding corruption and abuse of power via email at prnsabah@sprm.gov.my or contact the hotline at 089 668 746 and 011 1866 9877.

"Meanwhile, the MACC would also like to remind all candidates and contesting political parties not to carry out activities that may violate election laws and regulations, in line with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and the Election Offences Act 1954 (Amendment 2012)," MACC said in a statement.

The Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election will see a contest between Barisan Nasional's Mohd Kurniawan Naim, Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman (Warisan) and Goldam Hamid (Independent), while the Lamag state by-election is a straight fight between Barisan's Mohd Ismail Ayob and Mazliwati Abdul Malek (Warisan).

The by-elections are being held following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, 66, on Dec 5 last year.

The Election Commission (EC) has set the polling day for both by-elections for Jan 24, with early voting scheduled for Jan 20.
