PETALING JAYA: A couple’s trip to the hospital to welcome the planned birth of their new child turned into a dramatic delivery as the mother began giving birth inside their moving vehicle.
Nuraisyah Fauzi, 28, was recorded giving birth to a baby boy at about 1.55am on Saturday (Sept 5) while on board a moving multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), with the video of the intense scene having gone viral online.
Posted on her husband Siraj Yasman’s TikTok account, the clip has amassed more than two million views as it captured the breathtaking moment Nuraisyah’s mother Rosminie Che Yusoff stepped in as an impromptu midwife for an emergency delivery.
The delivery had reportedly taken place near Kampung Pendek, Kota Baru in Kelantan as the family was en route to KPJ Perdana Specialist Hospital from their home at Rantau Panjang.
Siraj, 39, a Quran teacher at the tahfiz centre, said his wife first experienced contractions around 11pm but only began their journey to the hospital at about 1.40am from their mother-in-law’s house after boarding their brother-in-law's MPV.
Thinking it was just usual labour pain, Siraj thought his wife could hold on until dawn, based on her experience of giving birth to their five previous children.
“It was only when we reached Kampung Pendek after 15 minutes of travelling that my wife told me that her clothes were wet and that our baby's head had already emerged.
“My mother-in-law, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, immediately turned around and acted as the midwife to deliver our sixth child,” he said according to reports.
The dramatic moment was then filmed by Nuraisyah’s sister, Siti Hajar Tajuddin, 27, from the back seat.
Siraj, who admitted to panicking during the ordeal, said he could only recite prayers as his mother-in-law helped deliver the baby.
Holding his new child in his arms, Siraj said he continued to recite prayers as his brother-in-law quickly drove them to the hospital, where they were then greeted by hospital staff already on standby.
“Despite having no experience as a midwife, my mother-in-law later told us that she had previously watched videos on TikTok about childbirth techniques.
“From those videos, she tried to help my wife deliver our baby during the emergency," he added.
Both Nuraisyah and her newborn son, who has yet to be named, were then reportedly in good health as they arrived at the hospital.
