Missing actress: Husband seeks government assistance to expedite Nadia Kesuma search process

KEPALA BATAS: The husband of missing actress Nadia Kesuma is appealing that the government immediately initiate diplomatic efforts with Saudi Arabia to expedite the search process for his wife.

Astro Awani reported that Prof Dr Muhammad Kamarul Kabilan Abdullah, 57, said that his wife's disappearance has now entered its fourth day and remains a mystery.

"If a minister or the government gets involved, it might be better. It might be faster. If I were the one talking, it might take two or three days, but if the minister contacts their counterparts, it might only take two or three minutes.

"We know time is of the essence. I don't want to think about bad things," he said when met at his residence in Taman Bertam Putra, here, on Saturday (Jan 17).

According to him, his wife's family members have filed a report with Wisma Putra and the Malaysian Consulate in Jeddah, which is now guiding the action to be taken.

He said he is advised to remain in Malaysia and not fly to Jeddah to avoid any disruption to the investigation, in addition to the language barrier, as he is not fluent in Arabic.

However, Muhammad Kamarul stated that he is always ready to travel to Jeddah at any time if required.

He said his wife is someone who loves to travel and usually informs her family of her location every time she arrives in a country.

However, this time, the actress did not answer calls or reply to messages after reportedly not boarding the next flight from Jeddah.

"I thought maybe she missed the flight, because sometimes people can miss it. On the train, she told me she could not sleep, so I thought maybe she dozed off somewhere else and missed the flight.

"Then I received a message from the travel agency, informing me that she was indeed not on the flight. The most worrying thing was when we tried to contact and message her, but there was no response," he said.

Muhammad Kamarul said their son used a tracking application, which showed that Nadiah's phone was still in the airport area, but its battery was getting weak.

Nadia Kesuma joined an umrah and pilgrimage group organised by a travel agency with 21 other participants, starting from Jan 14 to 28.

The actress, whose real name is Nadia Kasumawati Abdul Karim, was reported missing after she could not be traced while transiting at King Abdulaziz International Airport during her flight from Kuala Lumpur to London on Thursday (Jan 15).

On Friday, Malaysian Artistes Association (Seniman) secretary-general Hafiz Nafiah said he had personally informed Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan of the disappearance so that immediate action could be taken to trace the actress.

Earlier on Saturday, KLIA OCPD Asst Comm M. Ravi had confirmed receiving the report and said further investigations are underway.

He said the disappearance had been classified as a missing persons case and the police report had been referred to the Consulate General of Malaysia in Jeddah.

He urged people who had information on Nadia Kesuma to contact the KLIA Police headquarters at 03-8776 8222 or the investigating officer, Insp Puvanesan Raja Segeran at 019-588 3034.
