Sabah needs bipartisan team to implement 40% revenue order, says Tham

KOTA KINABALU: The state government must establish a special bipartisan committee to ensure the High Court decision mandating a review of 40% of revenue owed to Sabah is implemented.

Likas assemblyman Tham Yun Fook said the High Court’s decision is a legally binding order, and its implementation should not be delayed for administrative or political reasons.

He said this matter concerns Sabah's constitutional rights and the state government’s ability.

“In this regard, I propose that the Sabah government immediately establish a bipartisan Special Committee with representatives from the state government, opposition assemblymen, legal experts and relevant stakeholders.

“The objective of this committee is to ensure negotiations are fact-based, transparent and effective,” said Tham.

His statement follows those of nominated assemblyman Datuk Roger Chin and Madani government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil on this matter.

On Wednesday (Jan 14), Chin expressed concern about the apparent lack of concrete progress, even at the 90-day mark under the High Court order to review Sabah’s 40% net revenue entitlement.

Fahmi had assured that the second round of negotiations on this matter is expected within the next one to two weeks.
