Former security guard jailed seven years for stealing 17 gold bars and jewellery


PETALING JAYA: A former security guard has been sentenced to seven years in prison for stealing RM250,000 worth of gold and diamonds belonging to a Melaka finance officer.

Mohd Zakuan Abdul Rashid, 35, was charged with stealing at the official residence of Datuk Salhah Salleh in Bukit Peringgit, Melaka Tengah, between June 2024 and December 2025,reported Sinar Harian.

Mohd Zakuan stole RM20 in cash, a gold bracelet, two diamond rings, two diamond bracelets and 17 gold bars weighing approximately 86g.

For the second charge, Mohd Zakuan admitted to selling the stolen goods at Kampung Paya Rumput in Melaka Tengah.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Asri Abd Rahman Sidik pushed for a harsher sentence as the accused had betrayed the trust placed in him as a security guard at the victim's residence.

"Losses by the victim is are estimated at more than RM250,000," he said.

Judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin sentenced Mohd Zakuan to three years' imprisonment for theft under Section 380 of the Penal Code and seven years' imprisonment for dealing in stolen property under Section 413 of the same Code.

The court ordered both sentences to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on Jan 6.
