Cops detain three for suspected murder in Sibu

SIBU: Three local men aged between 27 and 31 have been arrested to assist investigations into the murder of a foreign national, believed to have resulted from a fight at a hotel here early Thursday (Jan 15).

Sibu OCPD Zulkipli Suhaili said police received a report at about 4.22am regarding a foreign man who had died after being admitted to Hospital Sibu.

“The 27-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the hospital due to severe head injuries,” he said in a statement.

Police later arrested three local men believed to be involved in the incident.

Preliminary examinations revealed that all three suspects sustained injuries to their arms and bodies, which are believed to be linked to the fight.

“Checks showed that none of the suspects have criminal records. They will be remanded in court on Friday to facilitate further investigations,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

However, the motive behind the incident has yet to be determined.

ACP Zulkipli advised the public not to speculate, as this could hinder investigations. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to come forward and contact the nearest police station.
