Traffic enforcement officers to adopt zero-tolerance towards graft, power abuse, says Bukit Aman

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) will adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards abuse of power, corruption and misconduct, says Comm Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali.

The newly appointed director said the approach will be adopted while continuing to uphold firm but humane law enforcement.

"Enforcement officers must respect the public and not instil fear, stressing that integrity and professionalism were non-negotiable in maintaining public trust," he said during an address to the department's top leadership recently.

Comm Muhammed Hasbullah said traffic enforcement should not rely solely on punitive measures but must be complemented by preventive efforts through education, advocacy and road safety awareness.

"Preventive enforcement should be carried out in tandem with investigations and enforcement operations to achieve sustainable improvements in road safety.

“To remain effective in facing current and future challenges, we must also strengthen the department's assets, technology and training, in line with evolving times and expectations,” he added

The address was intended to serve as a guiding commitment for JSPT officers in carrying out their duties for the public and the nation, while reinforcing integrity, professionalism and service effectiveness for the safety and well-being of road users, Comm Muhammed Hasbullah said.

Also present were JSPT deputy directors Deputy Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin and Asst Comm Fauzi Osman, JSPT secretariat chief ACP Rahmat Ariffin, as well as assistant directors, statement JSPT chiefs and senior officers.
