No decision yet on Umno going solo for 16th GE, says supreme council member

KUALA LUMPUR: The decision on whether Umno will go solo or continue cooperating with others will be known before the 16th general election, says Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.

He said the party’s priority is to ensure a government is formed in accordance with the Federal Constitution, the constitutional monarchy and continues to be stable.

“Umno direction and strategy have yet to be finalised. It will be determined at the ‘right time’, especially with the general election coming soon.

“We cannot reveal our strategy too early. If others know, it will no longer be a strategy,” he said on Wednesday (Jan 14).

He said this when asked about the outcome of a closed-door briefing by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the Umno annual general assembly.

The Kemaman Umno chief also said youth in Terengganu must evaluate the state’s current administration maturely and comprehensively instead of solely relying on sentiment or social media influence.

“Most only rely on information over social media and are easily influenced.

“This results in many being confused and losing trust.

“The youth must be more mature, creative and focused while also being able to evaluate the effectiveness of the current administration rationally,” he said.
