Focusing on MKI matters

KUALA LUMPUR: The federal and state governments must earnestly implement follow-up actions on all resolutions and conclusions put forward by the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI), decreed the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah.

His Royal Highness, who is MKI chairman, said the government, including the responsible agencies, must pay close attention to and respect matters concluded by the council to give meaningful value to its role.

The Sultan emphasised that the resolutions reached and endorsed must be valued so that MKI is not regarded merely as a forum for discussion and debate, while the formulated recommendations are left hanging without any follow-up action.

Sultan Nazrin said that during the two-year period he was entrusted to chair MKI, various matters were discussed and considered by the meeting to achieve understanding and consensus.

Furthermore, these conclusions had been presented to the Conference of Rulers, the Perak Ruler added.

“What is more important is the follow-up actions on all suggestions and conclusions, so that they do not remain as written documents destined to be buried under piles of paper.

“When resolutions and conclusions are followed through and implemented earnestly, they will directly benefit the people while projecting a positive image of the government.

“Beyond that, it enhances respect, understanding and appreciation for Islam, not only among Muslims but also among non-Muslims,” Sultan Nazrin said at the opening ceremony of MKI’s 74th meeting, Bernama reported.

The meeting is the third chaired by Sultan Nazrin during the period he was entrusted by the Conference of Rulers, which began on March 10, 2024, and will conclude on March 9.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said his government will continue to strengthen the administration of Islamic affairs in an inclusive and effective manner to safeguard the well-being of the ummah and ensure lasting national harmony.

The Prime Minister said the commitment will be realised through consultative cooperation between states, anchored in the Federal Constitution.

“His Royal Highness’ guidance and advice, emphasising leadership accountability, empowerment of education and sound governance of Islamic affairs, are deeply meaningful and should be collectively embraced as we face current challenges, while strengthening the values, knowledge and conscience of Muslims in this country,” Anwar posted on Facebook.

He said the meeting reflected the spirit of consensus and unity between the federal and state governments in shaping strategic views and decisions for the benefit of Muslims, in line with current needs and the realities of Malaysia’s multiracial society.
