Penang cops remand six for alleged involvement in group fighting


GEORGE TOWN: Six men were remanded for three days for their alleged involvement in a fighting incident at Ho Tiang Wan Road on Sunday (Jan 11).

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the suspects, aged between 23 to 52, were arrested by police near Madras Road at about 330am on the same day.

"Investigation found that the incident was caused by a misunderstanding between the suspect," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 13).

ACP Abdul Rozak said the suspects had been remanded for three days from Jan 11 to Jan 13.

On Jan 13, four of the six suspects were charged under Section 160 of the Penal Code (Punishment for committing affray) while the remaining two were made prosecution witnesses.

All the accused pleaded guilty and were each fined RM1,000 by the court.
