KUCHING: Energy transition and low-carbon industrialisation will drive Sarawak's growth under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), says Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
The Premier said renewable energy would anchor downstream industries, data centres and emerging hydrogen-based activities.
"This transition will be underpinned by strong environmental stewardship, including sustainable land and water management, circular economy practices and climate resilience measures, to ensure that industrial growth remains environmentally responsible over the long term," he said in a special address at the Majlis Amanat Perdana here on Tuesday (Jan 13).
Abang Johari said Sarawak would also focus on enhancing the manufacturing, food security and agriculture sectors to improve productivity, commercialisation and incomes.
He said transport, logistics and gateways would be upgraded, while supporting business services would be strengthened to position Sarawak as a competitive hub for regional production and services.
"Effective government transformation will underpin the successful implementation of the 13MP.
"Priority will be given to strengthening institutional capacity, improving regulatory quality and enhancing policy coordination across ministries, agencies and state-owned enterprises," Abang Johari said.
He added that the 13MP would be implemented in phases to align with Sarawak's ambitions and delivery capacity.
In this regard, the 2026-2027 phase would focus on acceleration, including fast-tracking projects ready for implementation, resolving bottlenecks, mobilising investment and strengthening delivery coordination.
From 2028 to 2030, the focus will be on consolidation and harvest, scaling successful initiatives, embedding reforms and ensuring that economic and social benefits are widely shared.
