SEREMBAN: The Sessions Court here has fixed March 9 for the next mention of a case involving a 46-year-old father charged with causing the deaths of his two young children who drowned after a car they were in plunged into Sungai Linggi in September.

Abdul Rahman Mahmud had claimed trial when he was charged on Sept 12.
He was charged under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a penalty of up to 30 years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
The two siblings, aged six and eight, drowned in the incident on Sept 4. Also in the car was a woman believed to be the man's lover.
During today's proceedings, Abdul Rahman, who was unrepresented, asked the judge if he could be offered bail.

However, judge Kanageswari told him that the court would not allow it.
Based on the preliminary probe by the police, the siblings were resting in the car next to the river with the couple just before the tragedy.
After the man exited the car to have a cigarette, the vehicle began rolling towards the river and plunged in.
Passersby managed to save the woman, but the children were trapped inside.
Their bodies were found in the front passenger seat of the overturned vehicle at a depth of 4m.
