DENGKIL: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will step up comprehensive enforcement nationwide against commercial vehicles this year by curbing overloading.
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said this builds on the success of similar operations in 2025, during which 1.2 million vehicles were inspected, with action taken against 240,493 of them, while 465 vehicles were seized under Section 80 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
“By comparison, in 2024 a total of 829,392 vehicles were inspected, an increase of 35.5%. Action was taken on 126,974 vehicles, while 69 vehicles were seized,” he said, Bernama reported.
Aedy Fadly said the most common offences recorded in 2025 were failure to comply with Periodic Inspection Notices, absence of a vocational licence, poor tyre maintenance, and failure to possess a Competent Driving Licence.
He said compliance with the law among commercial vehicle drivers has improved following intensified JPJ operations.
