KOTA KINABALU: Four Parti Warisan assemblymen have expressed concern about the Sabah government's measures towards resolving the issue of undocumented migrants.
This is because the population of non-citizens including undocumented immigrants continue to rise over the years, they said.
They said based on the Department of Statistics Malaysia report as of Dec 24, 2025, the number of non-Malaysians in Kota Kinabalu itself had risen from 79,100 in 2021 to 125,400.
This is about 20% of Kota Kinabalu’s total population of some 600,000 people, the record said.
According to the department as well, Kota Kinabalu is the third state with the highest number of non-citizens after Sandakan (195,100) and Tawau (142,900).
Records also showed that there are over 1.04 million non-Malaysians in Sabah to date.
“So, where is the government’s commitment to solving this issue and reduce the number of non-citizens residing in Sabah if the numbers continue to rise,” they said in a joint statement.
This joint statement was issued by Api-Api assemblyman Loi Kok Liang, Luyang assemblyman Samuel Wong, Edna Majimbun (Inanam) and Chin Tek Ming (Kepayan).
