74-year-old pedestrian killed in crash with motorcycle in Tampoi


JOHOR BARU: A female pedestrian succumbed to death after she was knocked down by a motorcycle on the way back to her house from a shop.

Johor Baru North acting OCPD Supt Azrol Anuar Nor said the incident took place on Thursday (Jan 1), at Jalan Segenting in Tampoi near here.

“The 74-year-old victim, a local, was crossing the road when she was hit by a motorcycle, ridden by an 18-year-old male student,’’ he said in a statement.

Supt Azrol said the motorcyclist was travelling from Bukit Mewah towards Jalan Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam.

He said the victim, who suffered severe head injuries, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital.

“The motorcyclist, who sustained arm and shoulder injuries, is also being treated at the same hospital,’’ said Supt Azrol.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Supt Azrol called upon witnesses of those with information on the case to contact the investigating officer, Insp Mohd Khairul Azhar Pakrudin at 013-4111703
