PETALING JAYA: I will not resign from my Perikatan Nasional post in Melaka or at the national level, says Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
In a statement posted on her Facebook page Wednesday (Dec 31), the Masjid Tanah MP said that her decision was not due to personal interest but to ensure "organisational stablitly".
"I take note of the calls by certain parties who are urging and waiting for me to resign from my position as Melaka PN chairman and as womens wing chief at the national level following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as coalition chairman, as has been made known.
"However, I would like to firmly stress that my decision not to resign is not driven by any personal interest, let alone a desire to cling to positions or power. Instead, it is based on considerations of responsibility, organisational stability, and the interests of the PN struggle at the state level," she said.
However, she added that she was ready to step down if there was a collective decision.
"I am ready to relinquish both positions if that is a collective decision made maturely and based on the interests of the party and the coalition, rather than one made under emotional pressure or sentiment," she said.
She reiterated that the relationship amongst the component parties' leadership in Melaka is "harmonious".
"There is no internal conflict that would warrant my hasty resignation.
"Second, Melaka PN is currently in an important preparation phase ahead of the state election, which is expected to take place within the next four to six months. Continuity and close cooperation among the leadership are crucial to ensure that operations, machinery organisation, and strategies can be implemented in an orderly and effective manner.
"Any sudden change would only risk weakening the momentum that has been collectively built," she said.
She also said that claims that all appointments were nullified following the national chairman's resignation were inaccurate and that all appointments were made based on collective decisions made during supreme council meetings.
"In this regard, I would also like to advise that we put an end to any social media polemics involving the relationship between Bersatu and PAS, especially regarding the issue of the change of the Perlis Mentri Besar.
"I believe the people are watching these seemingly endless disputes between the two main PN parties, which will inevitably erode their respect and hope in PN as an alternative.
"As with any relationship, there will certainly be ups and downs and differences of opinion. However, I believe that with the wisdom of new leadership and the sincerity of all parties, all these differences can be resolved for the sake of a stronger PN and one that earns the confidence of the people," she said.
On Tuesday (Dec 30), Muhyiddin resigned from his position as coalition chairman.
Four other state leaders – all from Bersatu – also quit their positions, leaving questions over the future of the coalition.
