Our ally has gone its own way, PAS Youth chief says in heartfelt post

PETALING JAYA: In a heartfelt but stern message, PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden has said that the path of "an ally" has diverged from its own, following repeated acts of betrayal.

Without naming the ally in a Facebook post on Sunday (Dec 28), Afnan Hamini said PAS had always upheld loyalty and unity in their relationship.

"Whoever wants to be friends with PAS is welcome, as long as they do not interfere with our principles and policies," he wrote.

He outlined his party's sacrifices in the spirit of friendship, including giving up seats, mobilising machinery, raising funds, and working day and night to support its allies’ campaigns.

He said PAS has endured attacks alongside its friends, shared hardships, and always prioritised the interests of consensus over its own ambition.

The Alor Setar MP recalled PAS' actions after the 15th General Election, noting that despite having the most seats, it supported a prime minister candidate from among its allies.

“Even though deep down PAS wished the PM candidate would be from our ranks, we suppressed that desire to protect friendship and consensus," he said.

He also recalled that in a by-election, PAS even gave up one of its senior Youth leaders to become a candidate for an allied party.

"He was willing to leave PAS and join the allied party, all in the name of loyalty. The by-election did not favour the ally. The former PAS member remained with the ally, marking it as a true act of sacrifice," he said.

In the Nenggiri by-election last year, former Navy personnel and PAS Youth leader Rizwadi Ismail lost to Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani.

Afnan Hamimi also cited examples of PAS members serving in the constituency offices of friendly parties despite receiving other offers.

He said the party has refrained from commenting during internal crises despite being bombarded with questions from journalists.

"Today, that friend has gone its own way, feeling strong and self-reliant. The loyal friend has been left behind. It’s fine, friend. Go ahead. From now on, do everything alone," he wrote.

He added that PAS will continue moving forward, aiming to please God.

"Thank you for having been part of our lives. Thank you for letting the world know what a true friend is. Go. Do not return," he said.

His remark followed the appointment of Bersatu's Kuala Perlis assemblyman Abu Bakar Hamzah as the 12th Perlis Mentri Besar on Sunday.

Abu Bakar succeeds PAS' Mohd Shukri Ramli, who stepped down from his post on Thursday (Dec 25) citing health reasons.

Abu Bakar was appointed to the state executive council following a reshuffle in November last year, during which he was entrusted with the tourism, arts and culture as well as rural development portfolios.

In the reshuffle, Abu Bakar was among three state assemblymen appointed as new executive councillors, replacing two incumbents who were dropped.

PAS and Bersatu are key partners in Perikatan Nasional.
