KUALA LUMPUR: The suspect who allegedly detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Nilai, Negri Sembilan, does not appear to have links to extremist groups, says Bukit Aman.
"He is still being held at the hospital. As of now, no extremist elements have been identified.
"This appears to be an isolated incident and not linked to any groups or organisations.
"We are trying to determine why the explosive was made and if there are others involved," Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said at a press conference here on Monday (Dec 29).
Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad had said that the 62-year-old suspect was arrested in the Mantin area on Dec 27.
On Dec 26, DCP Alzafny said the suspect is believed to have technical knowledge of explosives based on the devices and equipment seized from his house.
Police also found 31 more IEDs in his house, which they later destroyed.
