Two killed in Johor highway accident


JOHOR BARU: Two drivers, aged 19 and 21, were killed in a three-vehicle collision along the Senai-Desaru Expressway early yesterday.

Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the accident occurred at KM45.6 of the expressway at 5.35am and left five others injured.

“The 19-year-old driver is belie­ved to have veered into the opposite lane and collided with a car driven by the 21-year-old man.

“The impact caused both vehicles to spin before coming to a halt. Both drivers suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement.

ACP Mohd Sohaimi added that a third vehicle, driven by a 23- year-old woman, was unable to stop in time and crashed into the first car.

“The woman sustained serious injuries, while her passenger suffered minor injuries.

“Three passengers in the second vehicle were also seriously injured,” he said, adding that all the injured were taken to Hospital Sultan Ismail.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
