No property damage reported after Bukit Kepong earthquake


JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor State Government confirmed that the situation is under control following a minor earthquake detected in Bukit Kepong, Pagoh, and Muar at 8.55am on Sunday (Dec 28).

Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, said there were no reports of casualties or property damage, reported Sinar Harian.

He said the incident posed no tsunami threat to Johor.

"Relevant agencies are closely monitoring the situation. Any new developments will be shared from time to time," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He advised the public to remain calm, avoid being near unstable structures and remain alert and obey authorities' instructions as needed.

Recently, earthquake tremors were reported in Segamat and Batu Pahat.

In Segamat, the first earthquake occurred on Aug 24, registering magnitudes of 4.1 and 2.8. This was followed by additional tremors of 3.2 on Aug 27, 2.5 on Aug 28, and 3.4 on Aug 29.

Meanwhile, in Batu Pahat, earthquakes with magnitudes of 2.7 and 2.9 were recorded on Aug 30 and 31, respectively. The most recent earthquake, also magnitude 2.9, occurred on Sept 3.
