Factory operator jailed for threatening to kill his mum

KUALA LUMPUR: A factory operator has been sentenced to one month in jail by a Magistrate's Court here on Friday (Dec 26) after he pleaded guilty to threatening to pour acid on and kill his mother earlier this week.

Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan ordered Abdul Razak Manaf, 34, to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Monday (Dec 22).

According to the charge sheet, the man threatened the 72-year-old victim by saying "I will throw acid and kill you" at a house in Cheras at 4pm on the day of the incident.

The charge, framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, provides for a maximum prison sentence of seven years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Based on the facts of the case, the incident occurred during an argument between the accused and his mother after she demanded the return of her mobile phone, which the accused had taken.

The accused then issued the threat.

During mitigation, Razak, a single father with five children aged between three and 11 years, said this was his first offence and that he had apologised to the victim. – Bernama
