PETALING JAYA: Bersatu leaves the decision of who will replace Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail.
Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said that for now, the Bersatu Supreme Council has not called any meetings on the matter.
The Perikatan Nasional state government in Perlis—comprising PAS and Bersatu—is currently in limbo after five Bersatu state assemblymen allegedly signed statutory declarations (SDs) to withdraw their support for the Perlis Mentri Besar, Mohd Shukri of PAS, on Dec 22.
On Wednesday (Dec 24), a Malay-language newspaper reported that three names from Bersatu had been submitted to the Raja Perlis for consideration as Menteri Besar (MB).
"So far, I have not been informed of any pending Bersatu Supreme Council meetings on the matter.
"All that I have learned about Perlis, I have only read in the media. If it is as reported and the matter has been put before Tuanku Raja Perlis, that Bersatu should leave the decision to the wisdom of Tuanku to decide what is best for the state," said Ahmad Faizal when contacted.
Mohd Shukri, who is from PAS, was being hospitalised in Kuala Lumpur after reportedly suffering chest pains.
On Dec 23, eight Perlis state assemblymen from the state government itself, including five from Bersatu, allegedly submitted a statutory declaration (SD) to the Raja of Perlis last week, informing the Ruler that they had withdrawn their support for the Mentri Besar.
The Bersatu members included state assemblymen Izizam Ibrahim (Titi Tinggi), Abu Bakar Hamzah (Kuala Perlis), Megat Hashirat Hassan (Pauh), Wan Zikri Afthar Ishak (Tambun Tulang) and Marzita Mansor (Sena).
Three others who also submitted SDs retracting support for Mohd Shukri were Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong), and Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji).
Gan Ay Ling, the sole opposition representative in the Perlis state assembly from PKR, was also said to have submitted an SD to the Raja Perlis.
