KOTA KINABALU: Over 1,300 households across Sabah were treated to early Christmas cheer in the form of food baskets from Yayasan PETRONAS.
Through its Uplifting Lives Festive programme, the foundation identified some 1,309 families as recipients.
PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan Regional Office general manager Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab handed the festive packs to some of the recipients in a recent ceremony at the KDCA Mini Hall in Kampung Toporoi in rural Matunggong.
Each pack contained essential items such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour and tea, along with festive cookies supplied by a local entrepreneur under Yayasan PETRONAS' Bisnes Orang Muda (youth business) programme.
A total of 300 families in Matunggong were selected to be part of the programme. Pitas had 300 recipients, Tongod 409, Kundasang 200, and Beluran 100.
The distribution was made through a collaboration with the Sabah Social Welfare Department.
"Festive seasons remind us of the importance of caring for one another," Siti Ayu said at the Matunggong event.
"Through the Uplifting Lives Festive programme, we hope to strengthen the bonds within our communities and bring comfort to families across our communities this festive season."
The programme is part of Yayasan PETRONAS' broader social impact initiatives, which focus on community well-being and development alongside education and environmental sustainability.
Through the initiative, the company continues its efforts across Sabah to support education, strengthen community resilience, and promote socio-economic advancement.
Siti Ayu said this reflects the company’s role as an energy partner dedicated to giving back to communities and contributing meaningfully to their long-term progress.
The ceremony in Matunggong was witnessed by state Women, Health and People's Wellbeing Ministry deputy permanent secretary (Policy and Management Sector) Henry Idol.
