Six people questioned in religious teacher sexual assault case, says KL police chief


KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded the statements of six people in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a student by a religious teacher.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said investigations are also underway to determine whether there were other victims.

"We are in the midst of completing the investigation.

"We will refer the investigation paper to the Deputy Public Prosecutor once the investigation is completed," he said when contacted on Sunday (Dec 21).

He added that the 40-year-old religious teacher, who was nabbed, did not have a criminal record.

The teacher was detained on Friday (Dec 19), and he was subsequently remanded until Dec 25.

The suspect had been teaching at the religious school in Kampung Pandan for about 11 years.

It was previously reported that an 11-year-old student was allegedly sexually assaulted by a religious teacher.

Wangsa Maju OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Lazim Ismail had said that the incident was reported to the police on Dec 16.

In the report, it was alleged that the suspect had sexually assaulted a student from a religious school based in Kampung Pandan.

A police investigation has been opened under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
