KOTA KINABALU: A six-day search for an 83-year-old woman who went missing from her house at Kg Tambulion Laut in Kota Belud ended on a tragic note when her corpse was found on Sunday (Dec 21).
Minun Kasim, 83, was found lifeless at around 10am at a farming area in Tumpul Tambulion Luminodip, some 1.7km from where she was believed to have been seen last.
Kota Belud fire and rescue station chief Elge Bakuk said her body was discovered by search and rescue teams from the police, civil defence, RELA and villagers.
To get out to the main road from this mangrove spot using the nearest route, they had to hike through streams and forest, he said, making it difficult for them to bring her body out due to the strong river currents along the way.
“We finally decided to find an alternative way that passes through the palm oil estate using four-wheel-drive vehicles,” he said.
Elge said her body was surrendered to the police for further action after they managed to reach the main road.
Once all hazardous elements were eliminated, they wrapped up their operations at around 12.40pm Sunday.
Minun was first reported missing at 7.30am on Tuesday (Dec 16), after she was last seen at around 5.30pm a day earlier.
