Sabah eyes Chinese collaboration

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has many potential economic sectors that can be explored by investors, according to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said that foreign investments, especially from China, are always welcome in the state.

Hajiji said investment cooperation with China offers mutual benefits, particularly in technology transfer, job creation and the development of local economic value chains.

“Sabah always welcomes foreign investors, as there are many potential sectors that can be explored collaboratively and are viable in the long term,” he added.

These include oil and gas, energy, blue economy, tourism, modern agriculture and green technology-related industries, said Hajiji.

He made these remarks following a courtesy call by Chinese consulate-general in Kota Kinabalu Dr Zhu Xinglong and his delegation at Menara Kinabalu.

During the meeting, he expressed hope that Zhu’s office could help promote Sabah as an attractive investment destination among the business community and investors.

Meanwhile, Zhu briefed Hajiji on various programmes and activities carried out by his office to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between Sabah and China.

He also invited Hajiji to attend several official functions next year and extended an invitation to visit several provinces in China to explore broader trade cooperation.
