KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is primed to give a return on investments by foreign investors, including from China, with its growth potential in sectors like energy and green-tech, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He welcomed further investment cooperation with China for mutual benefits, especially in technology transfer, job creation and the development of local economic value chains.

Hajiji said foreign investors exploring strategic investment opportunities in Sabah would find the state has strong potential to drive economic growth and sustainable development across various key sectors.

These include oil and gas, energy, tourism, modern agriculture and green technology-related industries, he said after receiving a courtesy call from the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Dr Zhu Xinglong, at Menara Kinabalu here on Thursday (Dec 18).

“Sabah always welcomes foreign investors interested in investing in the state, as there are many economic sectors with long-term viability that can be explored collaboratively,” he said.

During the meeting, Hajiji expressed hope that the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu would help promote Sabah as a conducive investment destination to the Chinese business community and potential investors.

Meanwhile, Zhu briefed the Chief Minister on various programmes and initiatives undertaken by his office to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between Sabah and China.

He also invited Hajiji to attend several official functions organised by the consulate next year, and extended an official invitation for the Chief Minister to visit several provinces in China to explore broader trade and investment cooperation.

Also present was Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun.
