LHDN: RM17bil tax refund processed, remaining RM2bil to be disbursed by end of Dec

CYBERJAYA: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has cleared RM17bil billion in tax refunds covering 3.53 million cases from Jan 1 up to Dec 18.

In a statement, LHDN announced that the tax refund also includes an additional allocation of RM2bil announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently.

"A total of RM2bil has been processed and credited during the period from 9 to 18 Dec 2025, involving 7,819 cases.

"The remaining RM2bil of additional allocation will be processed and settled before the end of December," the statement said.

According to the board, the first additional RM1bil allocated has successfully resolved refund arrears exceeding three years, regardless of the amount involved.

"While the next RM1bil fund has been processed to be credited to taxpayers who have refund amounts aged two years and above, focusing on small and medium enterprises (SMEs)," it said.

On Dec 7, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said the government has increased the tax refund allocation from RM2bil to RM4bil to expedite outstanding payments to taxpayers.

LHDN said taxpayers are advised to update and ensure their bank account information is accurate and up-to-date to enable the refund process to be implemented smoothly.

"Some refunds cannot be processed due to errors or the absence of the correct bank account.

"In addition, no refunds can be processed involving court case disputes, taxpayers have arrears for other assessment years or companies eligible to receive payments have been liquidated up or dissolved," the statement said.

LHDN added that it would ensure that refunds are disbursed accordingly, with the priority going to the total amount of refund, and outstanding refunds involving SMEs. — Bernama
